Text Box: COACH DEVELOPMENT

‘Without continual growth and progress,

such words as improvement, achievement and success have no meaning’.

Benjamin Franklin

US Statesman, Author and Scientist (1706 - 1790)

It is essential to the development of players and athletes that they have access to quality coaching within their district. Tynedale has a wealth of qualifies and enthusiastic sports coaches providing a rich experience to the local community.

The ‘Coaching Ladder’ provides a series of opportunities to cater for varied coach needs and experiences. National Governing Bodies (NGBs) deliver regional courses to enhance coaching skills and knowledge. Leisure Tynedale work in close partnership with NGBs to provide courses within Tynedale.

Jamie Williams, Community Sports Officer says that ‘Due to the growth in junior sport and physical activity opportunities is vital that we qualify more and more coaches to provide a quality coaching service within local clubs. It is important for players to learn good technique at an early age and to always be striving for improvement while having fun’.

As well as qualifying as a coach it is now vital to successfully complete a recognised first aid course, child protection workshop and to be CRB certified.

In partnership with local School Sports Coordinators and Northumberland Sport we have helped students get placements in local sports clubs.
