Doing our bit for the environment

Wentworth Leisure Centre, Hexham, and Willowburn Sports & Leisure Centre, Alnwick, now have an electric car charge point, which can recharge cars such as the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi i-MiEV up to 80% of their capacity in 20 to 30 minutes.

The charge point, installed by the ‘Charge your Car’ project is one of a growing number in the north east. Visit: www.chargeyourcar.org.uk for a map of all charging points in the region.

Photovoltaic panels which convert solar radiation into electrical power have recently been installed at Wentworth, and also at head office at NCL House, with plans to have them fitted at Willowburn in the near future. This technology has advanced considerably in recent years due to growing demand for renewable energy.
